A few words from our members Madeline and Allison on this occasion:

In celebration of World Collage Day, TCCC posted an open call for mail art and the international collage community met this request with an enthusiastic and resounding “Yes!”

All five winds (and the postal systems of numerous countries) have brought us a robust and extraordinary turnout, often with external envelopes as ingeniously designed as the contents they carry.

During the early stages of designing this show, we intended to have a public exhibition. With quarantine measures currently in place, this is a goal we to look to fulfill another day.

What stays true is the tangible support and participation of hundreds of collage artists, near and far. This incredible body of work will be archived and used as teaching examples in the future, when it is again safe to do so.

A truly singular experience arises from encountering such a collection in person. As a collective we have been afforded the opportunity to peer into the creative minds of others and for that, we thank you. We can’t wait to share these insights with the greater Twin Cities area and around the world through this online show.

This show would not have been possible without the support both of the international collage community and the hard work of TCCC members. Thank you Scott Neff and allison anne for designing flyers and spreading the word on social media. Thank you Ben DiNino and allison anne for a formidable amount of scanning and careful cataloguing. Special thanks to allison anne for designing and curating our online show.

As a collective, we are so thrilled to bring you this international show featuring the work of more than 100 artists across some 27 countries.

When we put out a call to the collage community back in January with plans to exhibit the work for World Collage Day 2020, we didn’t know what to expect, and it has been such a thrill to see the submissions come in from around the globe. If you’d like to participate, we are accepting submissions postmarked on or before May 31st, 2020. This digital show will continue to be updated as submissions are received.

In the spirit of mail art and community connectedness in this time of global pandemic, there are several submissions in mediums other than collage that we are pleased to include.

If there is information that we’ve missed or reproduced erroneously, such as a link or your location, please contact us. In addition to the credits above, I’d like to thank Madeline Rose for providing a great amount of invaluable support in the final stages of organizing this online exhibit.

Happy World Collage Day!
